Men, please finish this love story!

Let me tell you about my friend G, she is a beautiful middle aged single woman and her break up story made me so angry that I could not keep it to myself, I had to write about it and scream at the top of my lungs. To all the men reading this: What the f… do you want? Who gives you the right to break our hearts and pretend it was nothing? Have some decency, grow up, own your mistakes, apologize but don’t pretend it was nothing! You and I we both know it wasn’t nothing, we are adults, please behave like one!

G met this 50 year old charming guy (let’s call him Alex) right before the first lockdown. They met a few times, shared some good laughs and then the pandemic hit. We were in lock down, working from home, not leaving our houses, having drinks over Zoom, you know the drill. But G was not ready to give up on the possibility of love just because of a deadly virus! She kept meeting him, invited him for dinner, they went on walks together. One day during a walk in the park Alex spilled the beans, he lived with a roommate and they had some arguments over Alex being out and about all the time and not being careful enough about contracting or spreading the big C. In a heartbeat G offered him to stay in her apartment, Alex agreed right away and moved in with G the next day. He did not have a steady job, he was educated, relatively handsome and knew how to charm a woman but a full time job was not his thing. A few months passed by, Alex did not pay rent or contribute to household expenses. But it didn’t matter, G was happy, she was glowing, she had finally found this lovely man she could connect with and she was not going to let financial inconveniences destroy her happiness, she was hoping for a happily ever after story and if that meant sharing her income, she thought let that be it, sharing is caring after all isn’t it? There were a few red flags here and there but G chose to focus on her happiness so she undermined them, until one day, out of the blue Alex said he wanted to move to Europe, solo, didn’t even ask G if she would want to join him. He packed and left within a week. End of the story! No apologies, no nothing, not even a proper break up conversation.

Now dear reader, you are left hanging aren’t you? You say, what the f? What is this? Where is the end of the story? This is exactly how we feel when there is no closure, so I’m begging you, if you are a decent enough human being, finish the story, don’t let us hanging, you owe us this bit!
